REFLUX

My daughter, my beautiful, big-boned, broad-shouldered, nose tackle of a daughter, has an eating disorder. So said her therapist when we were called in for group therapy and I said, “we’re not a group though, we’re a family,” which was an important distinction I thought, vital, even, because lots of people and things can group, congregate, come together, conglomerate—friends, teams, parishioners, bullets around a bullseye if you’re a capable shot—whereas family is family, irreplaceable, unique.
